5th April 2009

A great weekend at Barcelona. The spirit was great, the weather could not have been better and the action on the track was fantastic.

Great performances by competitors in all classes and I think Barcelona saw the start to an exciting season. Radical were delighted to see new entrants from many countries, including Belgium (Christophe Hissette), Canada (Bassam Kronfli), France (Alain Giavedoni, Patrice Guillaume, Henri Perrier and Benjamin Mahe), Spain (Cor Euser, Rafael Unzurrunzaga), Germany (Joachim Thyssen and Klaus Rader), Switzerland (Roland Feuz, Natacha Gachnang, Vincent Nicolet and Mathias Beche), Colombia (Tatiana Calderon), Italy (Gabrio and Giorgio Rosa) and the UK (Phil Abbott, Ross Allen and Michael Greenhalgh).

The grid was exciting with 27 Radicals, including 9 SR8 LM, 4 SR8, 10 SR3 1500cc, 4 SR5 and 1 PR6, resulting in an exciting 50-50 split between the V8s and the 4-cylinder engines. It also appears that despite some initial concerns, the changes to the technical and sporting regulations were well received.

Jamie Patterson is lying 6th overall in the SR8 LM series. Jamie finished 4th overall and 3rd in class in Race 1, a few tweeks to the set-up were carried out and unfortunately whilst lying 2nd overall in Race 2 the gearbox packed up.

Don Patterson & Nigel Morrison had an excellent run in both races and finished 3rd in class in both events. This now leaves them in 3rd position overall in their class.

Please see link here the "Points after Barcelona" www.raceschoolireland.co.uk/files/results_after_barcelona_april_2009_1_.pdf for for your information. You can find all race and qualifying results at www.ris-timing.be. Please note that in terms of lap times our SR8/SR8 LMs would have done reasonably well in the Le Mans Series' LMP2 class at the Barcelona meeting.

Radical Deutschland are very much looking forward to seeing the many additional competitors again at Spa Franchorchamps in early May. A separate announcement on this meeting will come out just after Easter. Just note that the Spa meeting will be a 2-day event on Friday (practice and qualifying) and Saturday (races 1 and 2), May 8 & 9, and will be preceded by an optional testday on Wednesday May 7
