9th May 2009 - Thrill has a name……Spa Francorchamps

At this sensational race weekend the competitors of the Radical European Masters as well as from the Radical UK Cup got all racing can offer….sun in the morning and heavy rain in the late afternoon. The first event this year where Radical European Masters and Radical UK Cup racers competed against each other was an outstanding event. A grid of 36 cars in Race 1 and 32 cars in Race 2 offers everything spectators can expect from an one-make racing series. And that’s the reason why Radical Sportcars and the Radical racing series are getting more and more attractive. Starting from Pole in Race 1, Derek Johnston and Stuart Moseley (SR8) were going into a tough fight with Jeff Collier and Alex Kapadia in their SR8 LM. At the end and with a gap of only 0.03 seconds in front Collier / Kapadia prevailed to win Race 1. Likewise Johnston / Moseley did a great job. The result: place two and the fastest overall lap time of the day! In third place Filip Berg-Nielsen on his SR8 saw the checkered flag. Finishing at the overall 10th position and as best in his class Radical UK Cup competitor and SR3 driver Colin Noble faced the phalanx of SR8 and SR8LMs. The best SR5 in Race 1 was driven by Giorgio Rosa directly followed by the Polevision ladies team Tatiana Calderon and Natacha Gachnang. Tony Freeman and Duncan Williams did a remarkable job. Both UK Cup competitors pushed their tuned PR6 to the limit and finished on a honourable 20th place. And then came the rain…. In the late afternoon and just some minutes before Race 2 was started the famous course in the Belgian Ardennes showed its ugly face…storm and heavy rain. After a 10 minute stop to change tyres the race director decided to start the race as Wet Race. Because of the strict noise regulations in Spa the race had to be finished at 18:00 hrs and so there was only time for a 30 minutes session. Starting from Pole Collier / Kapadia in their SR8LM drove to an amazing start-finish victory followed by Johnston / Moseley on the SR8. Phenomenally on third place Freeman / Williams with their tuned PR6. Best in the SR5 class after retirement in Race 1 was Thomas Meidinger. First in his class in Race 1 Colin Noble was defeated in Race 2 by Fred van Putten and Cor Euser in the SR3 class. So to sum up it was a great weekend with lots of outstanding battles in the sun and afterwards in the rain as well as a great get-together of Radical European Masters and Radical UK Cup competitors in an almost intimate paddock.
